Overview | ||

A new feature of Windows 7 is that shortcuts can be pinned to the Taskbar or Startmenu where they are supplied by Jump lists consisting of recent and pinned files or tasks. The Jump list data consist of an automatic and custom part, located in
Only one part, custom or automatic, needs to be present. File names have a hexadecimal notation, and the file name ending is "automaticDestinations-ms" or "customDestinations-ms". Some file names are independent from installation, like 1b4dd67f29cb1962 Explorer 28c8b86deab549a1 Internet Explorer 5afe4de1b92fc382 Welcome Center 74d7f43c1561fc1e Media Player 7e4dca80246863e3 Control Panel 918e0ecb43d17e23 Notepad If a shortcut is removed from the Taskbar or Startmenu, its Jump list is not deleted but remains in the above locations, so that it can be used again in case the shortcut is pinned back to the Taskbar or Startmenu. This program allows to save and restore Jump lists so that they can easily be transferred to different Installations. It can also delete Jump lists for pinned Taskbar or Startmenu items and interchange Jump lists between different shortcuts.

Backup | ||

This saves the Jump lists of pinned shortcuts to a Backup directory. Jump lists of shortcuts that are not currently pinned to the Taskbar or Start Menu are saved to an Orphans sub folder. Taskbar settings like
Lock the taskbar Use small icons Number of recent items to display in Jump Lists are also saved.

Restore single Jump list:
This allows to restore a Jump list for a pinned shortcut where the Jump list can be chosen freely from the Backup directory, including the Orphans sub folder. This way one can also interchange Jump lists between different shortcuts. Restore All Jump lists / Taskbar: This restores all Jump lists and, optionally, all pinned Taskbar items. This can be used to transfer a set of Jump lists to a new installation. When restoring the entire Taskbar, Shortcuts not currently contained in the Backup directory will be deleted. Also, this will restore Taskbar settings like Lock the taskbar Use small icons Number of recent items to display in Jump Lists Restoring a Jump list will not work if the Taskbar item is an invalid shortcut, or, points to a non-existing program. If the number of recent items to be displayed in Jumplists is set too low in a new Installation, items from a large Jumplist will possibly not be displayed. This number can be modified in the Windows Customize Startmenu dialogue as shown in the following screenshot.

Command Line | ||

Command Line Options are -delete and -restore. For example, the command
jumplistbr.exe -delete Internet Explorer.lnk, Windows Media Player.lnk will delete the jump lists of Internet Explorer and Media Player if these programs are pinned to Taskbar or Startmenu. The command jumplistbr.exe -delete Internet Explorer.automatic deletes only the automatic part of the Internet Explorer jump list. The -restore Option is available only in the registered version. The command jumplistbr.exe -restore dir="D:\Backup\Jumplists" will restore the jump lists from the Backup directory D:\Backup\Jumplists provided the corresponding shortcuts are pinned to Taskbar or Startmenu. An option -showgui can be added if a Message box should pop up to display the result.
