RegdatXP reads non active NT based registry files like Ntuser.dat and usrClass.dat and compares them to the current Registry. It is an NT version of Regdat and has binary Search and Replace functions for the Registry. Registry Backups can be done by command-line arguments. The full version can recover data from corrupt registry files, repair a corrupt file directly in many cases and remove user passwords from offline Sam files.

Regrecover is specially designed for strongly damaged registry files. Unlike RegdatXP, it linearly reads all cells of a registry file and then tries to rebuild the structure. It should be used when RegdatXP just displays a single key without any subkeys or even says it's an invalid registry file. The former usually means the information about where the subkeys of the root cell are located has been destroyed, thus making it necessary to scan the whole file for possible subkeys. The full version can export all data into a Win9x/NT4 registration file, and can rebuild a new hive from the corrupted one. In best case the recreated hive can be used as a replacement for the corrupted one. For larger files the scan process can take several minutes, and at least 512 MB Ram are recommended.

| In Windows 7 programs can be pinned to the Taskbar or Startmenu where they are supplied by Jump lists consisting of recent or pinned files or tasks. This program allows to save and restore Jump lists so that they can be transferred to a different Installation. If a program is removed from the Taskbar or Startmenu, its Jump list is not deleted, so that it can be used again in case the program is pinned back. This program can delete Jump lists for selected items and can also interchange Jump lists between different programs.

UrlSearch extracts web addresses and other text strings from local and remote files. Results can be edited and exported in various ways. Web addresses can be sorted by domains and exported to your browser's bookmarks (MSIE, Firefox, or Opera). UrlSearch can also view history and cookie files, download free proxy lists, and join Internet Explorer Download files. It is able to compute MD5 check sums for file lists and text strings, and can find duplicate files on disk. A separate Text window offers some manipulating functions for HTML pages like strip/count HTML tags and Hex decoding.

In Windows 7 the Show Desktop button (Win+d) has been removed from the left side of the taskbar and put into the bottom right corner of the screen where it is now part of the Tray Notify window together with the clock and other system tray icons. It has more features than in Vista/XP but can not be moved elsewhere. This applet can be used to bring back a Vista style Show Desktop button to the left side of the taskbar. In addition, files pinned to the button's jump list can be launched by their associated viewer. Simply unzip and pin to taskbar.
Note that, alternatively, one could also make use of the ShowDesktop.scf file from XP as described for example in thewindowsclub.com, or, even restore the entire Quick Launch Bar, including the Switch between Windows button (Win+Tab), as described in How-To Geek. This freeware has been presented in episode 520 of the Tekzilla daily tip series. | ||

In Windows 7 the Show Desktop Button has a fixed size of 15 pixel. The size goes up to 24 however when a touch screen device is attached and remains so even if the device is unplugged. This utility lets you choose an arbitrary size between 0 and 40. The registered version can set the size automatically at Log on. The software can not be used with the Windows classic theme. Alternatively, if you just want to remove the button you could simply use the Show Desktop Button Remover found at deviantArt or Softpedia.
